In all the craziness of studying nursing and recently with assignments and exams plus work, eating literally anything and everything and little training, I kind of missed being able to train.
I mean I could have fit it in, and I did do bits and pieces but if I had raced my goal race this year which was forster 70.3, I think I would have lost the plot. I would have been a zombie, literally working, training, studying and sleeping. Hence changing my goals.
As above, I’ve been super busy. I’ve made the decision that I won’t be doing Triathlon for the current season due to limited time to train for three sports- four if you count transition.
So instead of triathlon this season, i done something totally CRAZY-
Yup. I signed up for UTA50. That’s 50KM trail running through the amazing blue mountains of NSW with some crazy elevation.
I honestly have done no formal training since UTA22 this year. And I’ll still stand by my word that it was the hardest race I’ve ever done- I was almost physically spent- with the worst cramps in my legs I’ve ever experienced within metres of the finish.
Im hoping to get some base training in this year (somehow fit it in with placement). From December should see me with slightly more time to fit everything in.
Heres to another crazy journey and not pooping my pants along the way! 👌🏼
So my posts have been non existent and so has my training for the last few weeks. With UTA pace 22 in 11 days, I think I’m going to suffer!
Having no Garmin pretty much for the last 6 weeks has probably played a small part in why I haven’t trained plus me being lazy and tired.
I’ve managed a road run here and there and two long trail runs in the last month.
Yesterday was my worst trail run to date, I was up a lot Saturday night with nausea and vomiting so it probably wasn’t the best idea to back that up with a run yesterday anyhow. I felt tired, slow, a bit sick and if I had laid down I probably would have passed out. At times it was hard to even walk up some of the inclines- it was impossible for me to run it. Despite what I thought was a near death experience, I managed to do just over 18.5km.
This is me around the 4.5km mark, just before I bonked.
Heres hoping I can find some motivation in the next 11 days to maintain some sort of fitness to be able to get me thru what is the apparent hell of the UTA pace 22.
Watch this space!
Two crazy exciting things happened thismorning- one was reading my emails around 4am thismorning because I couldn’t sleep and going thru my junk email (LUCKY)..
I am so super excited to be an ambassador for this kickass brand! I cannot wait to buy all the goodies from the online store! (They even have a shirt with a turtle!🙊🐢) Even more exciting is meeting up with my TriMafia family and spreading the iamvelocity love!!
And the second was waiting on my replacement Garmin 920xt to be delivered- I was pretty excited to find that I had a brand newbie not a refurb!! Woohoooo!!
On another note… Training… Has been going fantastic. May have missed swimming yesterday morning but that’s ok! Cross country yesterday was hard yacka as Grant and I done stairs on Tuesday and my Calves weren’t and still aren’t on speaking terms with me! Yesterday we ran more of the cross country course than we did the week before (if you saw the hills you would understand this!!!) and I honestly thought our time would be so much faster- we ended up just 38 seconds faster. I’m thinking now perhaps I was just feeling stronger in the run and that’s a good thing- although I did still whinge! 10k on the road is so much easier!!
24 Days til race day! Holy Cow!!
I haven’t trained since Wednesday. I’ve missed a run, a swim and a brick and all I have are excuses. Thursday was a massive day work wise, yesterday I was so so tired and I worked til 2ish today… I feel like a big big fat slug.
I’m starting my day off tomorrow with a three hourish brick. It shall be interesting considering my Garmin has been sent to Garmin heaven to be replaced so I’ll be training purely with Strava in my back pocket!!
Tomorrow is also Singleton Tri’s Feb meet. Pretty bummed to miss out on racing but i need to do my training! Here’s hoping everyone has a fabulous race tomorrow and eat some of Lisa’s famous delicious granola for me! 🙊
On a good note, I reviewed my Saucony Peregrine 6 tonight- which can be found here. If you are from the Newcastle or Maitland area and in the market for some trail shoes or any type of sporting shoes, accessories or nutrition for that matter I would hands down recommend Pure Performance Sports. I have had nothing but positive experiences at all three locations.
Back to the Peregrine 6- Totally loving these shoes. I’m a bit funny when it comes to shoes- I don’t like feeling like I have something on my feet and these have been great so far. (I have in the past run with only my socks as my shoes were annoying me so much they were about to be thrown in the Hunter River!!) I’ve teamed my peregrine 6 with the longer length Balega socks and no blisters or hot spots at all! They also have an eyelet so when I get some gators they can clip straight on! Winning!
Me super excited to be fitted for my new trail shoes!
I best get some rest for my early session tomorrow!
Night night 🐢 xox
